Sri Mariyamman Temple Festival 2009 — A Grand Celebration

The 2009 Sri Mariyamman Temple festival in Esanatham was celebrated with traditional grandeur and spiritual enthusiasm. The annual Chithirai Thiruvizha is the most anticipated event of the year, and the festivities once again brought our entire community together to seek the blessings of the Goddess.

The festival commenced with the holy flag hoisting (Kodi Etram) and the traditional Kappu Kattuthal ceremony. Over the days that followed, the village was filled with traditional music, cultural performances, and rigorous daily rituals.

Highlights of the festival included the grand procession of the Goddess on decorated vahanams (chariots), the devotion of carrying Agni Chatti (fire pots), and the offering of Mavilakku by hundreds of women. Devotees from neighboring villages and those who have migrated to cities returned to Esanatham to partake in the celebrations.

The festival concluded with the Manjal Neerattu function (turmeric bathing) and a massive Annadhanam. The 2009 Mariyamman temple festival stands as a testament to our village's rich cultural heritage and collective devotion.
